The Elthorne Learning Centre (ELC) formally known as the Islington African Project (IAP) was established in 1983 and has an enviable track record of delivering training and capacity building services in the voluntary and community settings, running complex large scale regional and national programmes, and developing high quality, locally accessible learning programmes.
For more than twenty years the centre has provided services to adults of ethnic minority and refugee communities who have received little or no skills through traditional forms of education and equip them with the skills and qualifications they need to find work. We have been delivering ESF, LSC, LDA, ERDF and Home Office Projects to our members for the past 8 years.
ELC has in-depth knowledge and experience in managing and delivering vocational training and employment support to socially excluded groups particularly BME (65%) groups, unemployed, ex-offenders and learners with disabilities (10%) and 30% refugees and asylum seekers (RAS).
The centre has a long demonstrable track record of delivering ESOL and employment oriented programmes to hard-to-reach communities including RAS. Currently we deliver more than 2000 ESOL and vocational training courses including employment support, with 70% of all our courses being ESOL provision.
One of our aims is to prepare refugees, asylum seekers and EU nationals to enter the job market or undertake profession/higher level education/training.
100% of our beneficiaries come from disadvantaged communities such as BMEs, RAS, disabled people, long-term unemployed and lone parents. The centre tackle all these groups with positivity to ensure that every individual receives fair treatment which is equitable and consistent with his or her skills and abilities.
